IMBER Open Science Conference: Future Oceans

The University of Bergen and the Institute of Marine Research will be hosting the

IMBER Open Science Conference: Future Oceans
Research for marine sustainability: multiple stressors, drivers, challenges and solutions

23-27 June 2014. Venue: Radisson Blu Bryggen

Future Oceans aims to highlight IMBER science in the fields of marine ecosystems and biogeochemistry, promote integrated synthesis of its research and develop a plan for the next phase of IMBER science in order to underpin research for marine sustainability, including multiple stressors, drivers, challenges and solutions in the context of the new international science initiative Future Earth.

The Integrated Marine Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research (IMBER<http://www.imber.info/>) project is an interdisciplinary global environmental change research initiative that focuses on understanding the sensitivity of marine biogeochemical cycles and ecosystems to global change, and predicting ocean responses and the effects on the Earth System and human society.

The IMBER Open Science Conference will feature 10 keynote talks, 9 workshops and 7 parallell sessions covering marine biogeochemistry and ecosystem research, fisheries, and the human dimension of global marine change. The ultimate goal is to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research that addresses human-natural marine science issues and to provide guidance for decision makers, managers and communities towards marine sustainability.

Keynote speakers
Alida Bundy, Fisheries and Oceans, Canada
Claudio Campagna, Wildlife Conservation Society, Argentina
Jean-Pierre Gattuso, Laboratoire d’Océanographie de Villefranche, France
Nicholas Gruber, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Alistair Hobday, CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, Australia
Eileen Hofmann, Old Dominion University, USA
Corinne Le Quéré, University of East Anglia, UK
Kon-Kee Liu, National Central University, Taiwan
Coleen Moloney, University of Cape Town
Carol Robinson, University of East Anglia

The conference is of special interest to early career scientists. In this regard, exploratory and dedicated workshops will be held prior to the start of the conference on topics such as challenges/innovative solutions and communication to policy makers, capacity building and data management. In addition, a mentoring program will provide the opportunity to young scientists and students will to lunch every day with professors/senior scientists to promote networking

You are invited you to participate to learn about current research, present new research findings, share your knowledge, and join in the development of a framework for future marine research directions and collaborations.
