On September 19, the visualization group is organizing an interdisciplinary workshop on visualization in biology in the auditorium of the VilVite Center. The goal of the event is to bring together researchers from different fields, including biology, bioinformatics, and visualization, to discuss current challenges in enabling the generation of insight and knowledge from complex biological data.
We have an exciting program lined up with several invited speakers who will illuminate the topic area from different perspectives. As a further highlight, co-located with the workshop, in the afternoon Ewan Birney will give his Horizon Lecture on «Understanding basic biology using outbred genetics».
= Program Highlights =
*) 08:45 – Welcome & Opening
*) 09:00 – Ines Heiland, University in Tromsø
«Metabolic modelling: From networks to dynamics and back»
*) 10:45 – Jan Aerts, University of Leuven
«Visual analytics in omics: why, what and how?»
*) 13:15 – Jan G. Bjålie, University of Olso
[lecture title to be announced]
*) 15:15 – Ewan Birney, European Bioinformatics Institute
«Understanding basic biology using outbred genetics» (Horizon Lecture)
*) 16:45 – Panel Discussion
This workshop is supported by the SPIRE program. The event is open to all and snacks and refreshments will be available in the breaks. For further information on the program and the presenters, please see the event homepage at http://www.ii.uib.no/vis/events/VisBio13/ or contact Stefan Bruckner ( stefan.bruckner@uib.no ).
We are looking forward to your participation!
